The Art of Strolling

If you love Paris as I do, then The Flâneur: A Stroll through the Paradoxes of Paris should be at the top of your reading list. “A flâneur is a stroller, a loiterer, someone who ambles through a city without apparent purpose, but is secretly attuned to the history of the place and in covert search of adventure, aesthetic, or erotic.” I suspect that you will come to love this little book as I have and that you will read it over and over again.

A Unique Spin on Gelato

For lovers of Gelato, the artisianal Fatamorgana is must while in Rome.  Located in the Trastevere, this gelateria is described as “a fine atelier of the frozen dessert, where hand-made gelato becomes an extraordinary experience.” In addition to the classic flavors of chocolate, stracciatella, pistachio, and tiramisu, the adventurous can sample some of their more innovative creations:  pear & gorgonzola cheese; pumpkin with its carmelized seeds; Sardinian pecorino cheese; chestnut, honey, & orange peel; or wasabi chocolate. However, being a born and bred southerner, I was most intrigued by the Kentucky, a chocolate gelato infused with the flavors of tobacco and cinnamon cream. Try it if you dare.

How to Make a Sandwich Parisian Style…

Terroir Parisien is Yannick Alleno’s newest offering in the Latin Quarter of Paris.  With a sleek interior design and three Michelin stars, one wouldn’t expect one of the best things on the menu to be a sandwich in a bistro that prides itself on using fresh local ingredients to reimagine French classics.  Yes, you read the correctly — a sandwich.  But this is not any ole sandwich.  No, this is a perfectly baked baguette filled with handmade veal sausage and topped with gribiche.  It IS fabulous. The word is out about this bistro, so get there early or you will face a long wait at the bar, albeit martini in hand.

Cliff Barnes, Sue Ellen, & Pitchers of Cocktails…

Sue Ellen

Stockholm has done it.  It has solved the Ewing-Barnes feud!!  Well, sort of.  If you side with the Ewing clan, then head on over to Sue Ellen’s, a fab gastropub with a great selection of beers from the Gotlands Bryggeri microbrewery.  Now, if the Barnes family is where your loyalties lie, then Cliff Barnes is the place for you!  This bar honors the massive amounts of whiskey drinking that happened on Dallas by serving cocktails in pitchers!  Yes, they serve pitchers of cocktails…and you will drink them in this converted school of a bar! For the fans of the old Dallas or the new, this set of watering holes is a must while in Stockholm!
